On Rua 4, where Fotogracria grew up, the children tell the story of their street — and the street meets La Noue, a neighbourhood of Montreuil, across the Atlantic.

the encounter
This project grew out of the meeting between Fotogracria — an artist and creative director born and raised in the Rocinha favela, on Rua 4 — and mOst. It is a collaboration built on a shared vision: to make the peripheries places of culture, artistic expression and self-told stories, where memory is alive and the right to tell a place’s story belongs to the people who live there.
On Rua 4, with children, young people and residents, we opened a space for collective creation and community media. The workshops were designed as a complete process — from looking to making, from conversation to image — combining walks through the neighbourhood, photography, listening, short interviews, caption writing and editing.
At each session, the group chose what it wanted to show, how to show it, and which stories deserved to take shape. The work was not made “about” Rua 4: it was made from it, with the people who build it every day.

Hair bleached for the summer, a friend, the umbanda shop, the motorbike taxis, the view from Curva do S. The titles and sentences are the children’s.

This is Buizim. He’s my friend. A polite and very clever boy. Sometimes he’s cheeky, but he’s a good kid.
The umbanda house sells religious items to the people of our community.
Motorbike taxi driving is a job the crias do to earn a bit of extra cash.

“Our neighbourhood is called La Noue / Clos Français, and it’s in Montreuil, near Paris. Here, people are friendly, nice and easy-going. In the neighbourhood there’s a football pitch, schools, a secondary school, parks, corner shops, the shopping arcade and 100 Hoche, our community centre, where there are youth workers we really like and do loads of activities with.
Every year there’s “L’Été est à Noue”, and some of the photos you’re about to see were taken there. We like 100 Hoche, the Parc des Guilands, the La Noue pitch, and the fact that there’s a good energy in our neighbourhood.
We don’t like trouble — that’s the only thing we don’t like — because our neighbourhood is amazing. Honestly, we wouldn’t change a thing! Thanks for reading our introduction and for coming to see our exhibition. This is our neighbourhood: le monde est à Noue!”

The project carried on the work begun in 2025 with the crias of the T.L.: their images went back onto the street, next to those from Rua 4 and La Noue. The opening photo on the poster says it in its own way: the children of Macega, squeezed together in front of the posters pasted in their alley.
The large colour mosaic brings these encounters together: nearly a hundred images from Rocinha and Montreuil mixed on a single poster — lajes and tower blocks, pitches and stairways, faces from here and there.
